As a result of wandering around the Olympic zone in 2006-7 as part of WeSellBoxesWeBuyGold, poet and book contributor Jude Rosen began writing a long poem – Reclamations: Walks, Voices and Narratives from the Olympic zone. She’ll be reading from the sequence with poems threaded through the showing of sound archive, video footage and photos as part of Soundproof 5 on Saturday August 11th 5.00-7.00 at the Carter Presents Gallery, 59, Old Bethnal Green Rd. It will also be an opportunity to listen to interviews, recordings of the walks and the symposium and art work.
Walking is not an Olympic Sport
Jude will also be leading a ‘poem walk’ around Hackney Wick – stories, voices and histories with Francesca Weber-Newth, an urban sociologist on Sunday August 12th 2.00-4.30 Meet at the bottom of Hackney Wick station ramp at 2.00. The walk is scheduled to last 2 1/2 hours with pit stops (in the middle at the Greenway Café, ending at the Wick Café) . Francesca will introduce excerpts of interviews with people who live and work in the area, we shall both recount stories, and Jude shall read poems along the route. The walk is free but you need to book in advance as there is a limit on the number of people at any one time… To book for this please e.mail Adelita Husni Bey firstname.lastname@example.org
This is just one of the events curated by artist and book contributor Adelita Husni-Bey around Clay’s Lane archive this August. See full programme here.
